A. Comparison of Product Information:

  • Body Balm Bubbles Strawberries and Cream (BBB)
  • Lettuce and Cucumber Water Jelly Essence (LC)
  • The Body Shop Cranberry Body Butter (CBB)

1. Quantity and Country of Manufacture of Products:

• BBB→ 200ml, Australia

• LC→45ml, Korea

• CBB→ 200ml, United Kingdom

Body Balm Bubbles Strawberries and Cream & The Body Shop Cranberry Body Butter have the same Quantity while the Essence has the least Quantity because essence more concentrated and is more deeply moisturizing and can be used in smaller amounts.


All 3 products are made from different countries.

2. Expiry Date

3. Usage and Storage Directions

Similarity:

All 3 products are applied on the body.

Differences:

  • BBB is applied in the morning and night.
  • LC is applied after applying toner and before applying moisturizer.
  • CBB can be applied anytime.
  • BBB and CBB can be used in larger amounts as compared to LC, which only uses 1 drop.
  • BBB must be stored cap down, while LC and CBB do not need to.

B. Comparison of Ingredients:


1. Ingredients/functions

Similarities:

- All 3 contained aqua which serves the function of supplying moisture to the horny layer of the skin

Differences:

- BBB and CBB contain their unique constituent, aloe-vera and cranberry respectively (i.e. aloe barbedensis, varccinium cacrocarpon) but LC did not

- Both BBB and CBB contain cetearyl alcohol, which serve as an emulsifier, LC being an essence did not need an emulsifier.
  • In addition, BBB also contained stearic acid, also an emulsifying agent

2. Cosmetic preservatives

Similarities:
- Phenoxyethanol and Methylparaben are two common preservatives of the 3 products
- Differences:
- Each product contained a preservative that is not present in the other 2
  • BBB contained Methylchloroisothiazolinone
  • LC contained Imidazolidinyl
  • CBB contained Propylparaben

3. Thickening Agent

- Both BBB and LC contained carbomer, while BCC used Xanthan Gum as a thickening agent

4. Neutralizer

- Only BBB used a neutralizer (Triethanolamine)

5. Emollients

- BBB and LC contained variants of an emollient called Dimethicone, a protecting agent
  • BCC (Dimethicone Copolyol)
  • LC (Dimethicone Hydrogenated Lecithin)
- On the other hand, BCC contained Cyclomethicone
  • Silicon with a drier finish as compared to Dimethicone

6. Humectants

- BBB did not contain any humectant

- CBB contained Glycerin

- LC contains the most humectants
  • In addition to Glycerin, LC also contained Methyl Gluceth-20, Sorbitol, Propylene Glycol, Butylene Glycol

7. Chelating Agent

- BBB did not contain any chelating agent

- Both LC and CBB contained disodium EDTA

8. Vitamins and Antioxidant

- BBB did not contain any vitamins and antioxidants

- CBB contained Tocopherol (Vitamin E)

- LC contained the most vitamins and antioxidants
  • Niacinamide (Vitamin B3)
  • Lactuca Scariola Sativa
  • Butylated Hydroxy Toluene
  • Viola Tricolor extract

9. Colorant and other Miscellaneous Ingredients

- BBB did not contain any colorants

- LC contained a pigment called Synthetic Fluorphlogopite

- CBB contained a natural colorant called Caramel

10. Fragrance

• BBB and CBB are both Parfum, while LC is a Perfume.
